Application of SpECtite DPC
The application process for SpECtite DPC is straightforward, ensuring optimal adhesion and protection across various surfaces. The following steps outline the essential application procedures: Surface Preparation:
Concrete surfaces must be clean, sound, and free from oil, grease, dirt, dust, and loose particles. It is advisable to dampen the surface with water if the concrete or block work is very dry. To enhance bonding for subsequent coats, it is recommended to use a primer coat of SpECtite DPC Primer. This primer penetrates the concrete surfaces, filling pores and hairline cracks, producing an excellent surface for adhesion of SpECtite DPC. Application Steps:
1. Thoroughly apply the material as required using a brush or trowel into the substrate, ensuring the rounded edges are fully coated.
2. While the coat is still wet, embed fiberglass mesh into the coating. Use the trowel to work the material up and through the mesh until it is completely embedded.
3. Allow an overlapping of 50-100 mm wide on each side as well as over upstands.
4. Apply the second or subsequent coat to achieve the required dry film thickness (DFT).
5. Apply a minimum of two coats of SpECtite DPC with a heavily loaded brush or broom. A thick coat can be laid even on vertical surfaces due to the product’s thixotropic nature.
6. Each coat must be applied at right angles to the previous one to ensure proper coverage and uniformity.
7. Ensure that the first coat is fully dry before applying subsequent coats. The normal drying time ranges from 1 to 4 hours; however, in high humidity and cold weather conditions, this may extend up to 12 hours or more.
