A salt barrier is a protective coating or treatment applied to concrete to prevent salt and sulfate penetration. It is crucial in KSA due to highly saline groundwater and aggressive coastal soils that attack concrete.
Chlorides penetrate concrete and cause rapid rusting and expansion of steel reinforcement. Sulfates attack the concrete matrix itself, causing structural weakening, cracking, and eventual crumbling.
They should be applied to all subgrade structures, foundations, retaining walls, marine docks, bridges, and any concrete element exposed to coastal salt spray or aggressive soils.
Waterproofing membranes prevent liquid water ingress, while specialized salt barriers explicitly focus on blocking microscopic salt ions and chemical minerals from breaking down the concrete.
They must be stored in original, tightly sealed containers in a dry, ventilated warehouse at temperatures between 5°C and 35°C, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and frost.
Yes, all our salt barrier solutions are tested and certified to comply with the Saudi Building Code (SBC) and international standards like ASTM and ACI for concrete protection.
