Application Instructions
Joint Preparation:
To ensure optimal adhesion, the joint edges must be clean, dry, and free from oil, loose particles, cement laitance, and other contaminants. A thorough wire brushing, grinding, sandblasting, or solvent cleaning may be required to expose a clean and sound substrate. For glazed surfaces like ceramic or terrazzo tiles, the glaze should be removed by abrading with sandpaper or a wire brush. It is recommended that concrete is fully cured (4 weeks) before applying the sealant, and the use of SpECtop Primer EP121 is advised for best results.
Coverage:
One 600 ml sausage will fill approximately 6 linear meters of a 10mm x 10mm joint. For larger joints, a width-to-depth ratio of 2:1 should be maintained.
Back-Up Material:
A bond-breaking backing rod, such as SpECcord, shall be inserted into all movement joints to avoid three-sided adhesion. In cases where the depth does not allow for the application of a backing rod, a bond-breaking tape may be used.
Application Process:
SpECseal PU40 is provided in a ready-to-use self-contained sausage, which can be loaded onto a barrel gun. Start extruding the sealant into the joint firmly, maintaining an even pressure on the trigger. For vertical joints, begin extruding from the bottom and continue to the top. After installation, use a suitable rounded tool to achieve a smooth hourglass profile. Note: Do not use soapy water solution for tooling.
Equipment Cleaning:
SpECseal PU40 should be removed immediately from tools using solvent (white spirit) before curing. Cured material can only be removed by mechanical means.
Application Temperature Range:
The sealant can be applied in temperatures ranging from +5°C to +40°C.
SpECseal PU40 is supplied in convenient packaging for easy application:
SpECseal PU40 is available in 600 ml sausages, with 20 sausages per box and 96 boxes per pallet.
