Application:
SpECcoat EPU is designed for various concrete protection applications. Proper preparation and application are essential to ensure optimal performance. The following guidelines should be followed:
Preparation:
It is essential that adequate preparation is carried out prior to the application of SpECcoat EPU. Grit blasting is recommended to ensure the removal of all laitance, grease, and oil. The resultant surface should be dry and dust-free. Cracked and damaged areas must be made good with appropriate repair materials like SpECcoat BC. Any metal surfaces should be grit blasted to a bright finish.
Priming:
Priming is generally not required if the surface is properly prepared, and the application is carried out immediately after the preparation.
Mixing:
SpECcoat EPU is supplied in a two-component kit consisting of a curing agent and a pigmented base component. The resin content should be thoroughly stirred to disperse any possible settlement. It is recommended that the two components are mixed together mechanically using a slow-speed electric drill fitted with a Mixing Paddle. Mixing should be carried out continuously for 2-3 minutes until a uniform consistency is achieved.
Application Method:
A minimum of a two-coat application is generally recommended to ensure a full, unbroken coating is achieved. Once mixed, the material should be applied immediately to achieve a continuous coating. The first coat should be applied with a wet film thickness of not less than 200 microns and allowed to dry. The second coat should be applied when the first coat is touch dry at a WFT of 200ÎĽm.
Brush/Roller Application:
For brush or roller application, ensure that a continuous coating is obtained. The first coat is applied to achieve a uniform coating.
Spray Application:
Where large areas are to be coated, it is advisable to consider spray application.
Limitations:
1. SpECcoat EPU is formulated for application to clean, sound substrates of steel or concrete and should be protected from contact with water for the first 24 hours after application to prevent discolouration.
2. For cold weather working (down to 5°C), it is recommended that materials are stored in a heated building and only removed immediately before use. Accelerated heating methods are not to be utilized under any circumstances.
SpECcoat EPU is available in convenient packaging options to meet your needs:
– 4.5 litre units – 15 litre units
